Husqvarna, the renowned motorcycle brand, is set to introduce its next-generation Svartpilen 401, and it appears to be quite impressive. While recent images of the new-gen KTM 390 Duke gave us a glimpse of what to expect, we now have our first look at the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 based on the same platform. There are several noteworthy features and updates to discuss.
Introduction of Husqvarna 401s in India
For the first time, the Husqvarna 401 models will be available for sale in India. These motorcycles are built on the next-generation 390 Duke platform, showcasing the brand's commitment to the Indian market. This is exciting news for motorcycle enthusiasts in India who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of these bikes.
Enhancements in Design and Bodywork
A leaked image from the factory reveals the side view of the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, confirming its next-generation status. The engine cases bear a striking resemblance to those spotted on the upcoming KTM model, indicating a slightly larger engine, possibly up to 399cc, with increased power and torque capabilities. The chassis showcases a side-slung monoshock and a larger swingarm, features already observed on the new KTM 390 Duke.
Notable Changes in Features
The India-specific model can be identified by the saree guard protecting the chain on the left side. Visually, the bike retains a similar shape to the current Svartpilen 401, but with distinct changes in body panels. One notable improvement is the longer and wider seat, addressing one of the previous model's criticisms. However, it remains to be seen if the seat height has been modified to address concerns about its height.
Shifting Identity and Design Elements
Along with the larger engine and new chassis, the Svartpilen 401 seems to be transitioning from its previous faux-scrambler vibe towards a more roadster-oriented style. This shift can be observed in the flatter handlebar and the presence of alloy wheels wrapped in Metzeler M5 tires. This change is positive, as the original Svartpilen's scrambling capabilities were primarily limited to its appearance.
Potential Launch in India
The presence of India-specific components, such as the saree guard and engine guards, suggests that Bajaj, the parent company, may consider launching the Husqvarna 401 models in India. Earlier this year, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer confirmed that the next-gen 390 Duke would be launched in India by the middle of the year. If the 390 Duke stays on schedule, it is likely that the new Husqvarna 401 will be launched later this year or in early 2024.
Motorcycle enthusiasts in India can anticipate the arrival of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, offering enhanced performance, updated design, and a unique riding experience.
