Ather, the renowned electric scooter manufacturer, has recently announced the introduction of a new model called the 450S. It's important not to mistake the 'S' in its name for sport, as this electric scooter does not offer any additional performance compared to its counterpart, the 450X. In fact, the distinguishing feature of the 450S is its smaller battery capacity.
As of now, specific details about the new 450S are limited. However, it has been confirmed that the scooter is equipped with a slightly smaller 3kWh battery pack, whereas the 450X boasts a 3.7kWh battery pack. This reduction in battery size directly impacts the range of the 450S. According to the claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range, the 450S can cover a distance of 115km on a single charge. In contrast, the 450X claims an IDC range of 146km.
It is worth noting that during our range test, the 450X demonstrated an impressive range of nearly 142km on a single charge. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the new 450S will also offer a commendable range. The starting price for the 450S is set at Rs 1,29,999, whereas the 450X (without the ProPack) is priced at Rs 1,44,921 (both ex-showroom Bangalore). The addition of the ProPack brings the cost of the 450X to Rs 1,65,435 (ex-showroom Bangalore).
Considering that the 450S is positioned as the most accessible Ather e-scooter in their lineup, it is unlikely to feature many elements from the ProPack. At its current price point, the 450S competes with other electric scooters like the Ola S1, TVS iQube S, and Vida V1 Pro. These models fall into the mid-spec and flagship categories.
